Rules for posting on this site.
Follow them or have your posting rights removed or be banned.

[cut=Full List Of Rules]*  If a topic makes no sense to you, do not ask broad questions about it.  We have a lot of developer posts that will make no sense to someone who doesn't know how to program or has not taken the time to explore the game files.


*  All modifications we release for the xbox will require a modified xbox.  Ask for instruction and then tell us you don't have one will result in banning/deletion of all posts for failure to read instructions.  THERE WILL BE NO SAVES ON THIS SITE SO DO NOT REQUEST THEM.


*  We do not endorse pirating.  Suggesting or asking for such will get you banned.  If you like a game BUY IT.  People worked hard to make something to entertain you, it's the least you can do.  If you are caught without one of these you will be banned.


*  Posting of original game files is strictly prohibited.  If you have code to share post just the code you have made.  Only attach files if you have created an application or something similar that requires the attachment.  If you made many changes to a file but did not change ALL of it then post a PPF or something similar to avoid posting any original code at all.  Do not link to original files either.  Either way it's just the same as posting them here.


*  Harassing admins/moderators through PM/Email because of your own inability to work things out with other people in the forums will result in loss of PM an removal of ability to post.


*  Harassing admins/moderators through PM/Email because of your own inability to read posts and stickies in the forums with any compitence will result in loss of PM an removal of ability to post.


*  Harassing or just flooding a topic/person because you are too lazy to use search will get your posting rights removed.  Search exists for a reason and we won't deal with people that constantly ask for things that are easy to find with search.


*  Public bashing of other members will get your posts removed.  If it is done repeatedly you will get your account banned.


*  Posting a reply to merely say you don't know or you also want to know something is a waste of space and all of our collective time (assuming you weren't asked directly, but if you were it probably should have been done in PM).  Repeated offenders will get their posting rights removed.

*  Do not cross post questions/requests in forums.  Pick the appropriate forum and post it there.  People read in all of the forums and don't need to see the extra spam.


*  Everything on this site is provided AS IS.  If you use a tool that someone wrote here and it crashes your computer, we don't care.  The programmer should be informed with as much information as you can provide in order to prevent that from happening again though.

*  Being an open forum, try to contribute to it.  As in by helping crack file formats or developing new tools or game modifications.  Leeches are never appreciated.  Especially when they are ungrateful for the work that other people put into doing something for them.  Being ungrateful is a very quick path to being banned.


*  Lack of acting like a mature person or inability to type in proper english or something close to it will not be tolerated (i.e. l33t,ALL CAPS, or IM shorthand).


Basically, this is a technically based Fable modding site.  This is NOT a playground. [/cut]

If you have a problem with these rules, don't come here.

Failure to not read the stickies on forums (like this one) is not an excuse.  Failure to read this post is also not an excuse.

Subject: Source Code
To help the progress of tools development for Fable 2 we are running a Subversion server with source code of currently developed tools.  It is currently a very small codebase, but we're sure it will grow over time as more progress is made into the file formats.

Check out is anonymous. If you would like to commit, please talk to us about it.

P.S. Since the currently major developer of the code (myself) uses Visual Studio 2008, the code is setup to be built with visual studio 2008 solution/project files.  On another note, a great Subversion plugin for Visual Studio is AnkhSVN, pretty much a must have in my opinion.

Is it okay if i make my own codebase?

I prefer to use my application support library (which is free, although not public at this moment since it's for personal projects, i can release it w/ source though).

I ask if it's okay since i'll be releasing the source of all my tools aswell, and it might be a good idea to submit their code to the SVN server.

EDIT: I noticed some minimal code issues with your code, apparently you allocate stuff with new[], but deallocate them with delete and not delete[], like in BNKArchive::OpenArchive. I think that windows does not care if you delete[] or delete, but it's stil a minimal code issue.

Also, i didnt read all the code, but you may have a memory leak at this line:

pBuffer = new char[pHeader->FileDataOffset-sizeof(*pHeader)]; (BNKArchive.cpp:224)

Because, at least in the code that follows, you dont seem to delete[] pBuffer like you do previously.

You can use anything you like.  In terms of getting it committed in subversion, as long as everything required to build and run it is checked in you should be ok.  Alternatively if you're not planning on having multiple contributing developers you can just post the code in a thread or anywhere else to your liking.

Memory leaks are very possible as this code was written in a bit of a hurry just to get it working.  As for delete vs delete [] they are identical in terms of memory deallocation (at least in all c++ implementations I'm aware of), the only difference is that delete [] calls destructors on the array items if they exist before releasing the memory.  Long story short, I have a bad tendency to forget to use the [] when dealing with strings/raw data buffers since I don't really see them as objects.

Should i make a new thread for each code release? I prefer not to use SVN since i've been unable to properly use SVN without ruining the whole thing. Badly done commits and such.

I would suggest to just make a post in this thread with your code release and update that post with each new release.  This should allow us to have one central place where all available code can be easily accessed.  Then start a new thread for discussion of the code if necessary.  I'd like to keep this thread limited to just source code releases, and as so I'll probably be splitting this thread pretty soon.

Just to let you know that i've made 3 "tools" so far.

A BNK File Listing Utility, which lists whether an archive is compressed, and the files inside including byte count,
A BNK File Extracting Utility, similar to the one shown here, except that it doesnt replace /'s by .'s
A BNK File Extraction Merger Utility, which "mixes" two archives together. To be used with *_headers.bnk / *.bnk pairs.

About the last one, i noticed that the headers to certain files are kept someplace else than the archive they're in, so i thought it might be useful to make that "tool".

I'll release the source code tomorrow, hopefully.
